Taken from the toll roads website...http://www.m6toll.co.uk ...states police so I would imagine they patrol too...
Q: If I break down on the new M6 Toll, will recovery vehicles be on the road?
A: Midland Expressway recognises that stopping on the hard shoulder of a motorway is dangerous, this is why we have included emergency telephones on the new M6 Toll. In the event that you need assistance you should use the emergency telephone to alert the Police, they in turn will contact your emergency breakdown service.

It doesn't say they will come on the motorway, just that they will inform your breakdown service.
Also, doesn't the Government actually own the road, then they lease it to Midlands Expressway who have to pay for upkeep etc?

"MEL has overall responsibility for the private operation of the M6 Toll Road until 2054, when it will be handed back to the Government".

Imposition of speed limit
2. - (1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 50 miles per hour on any specified length of carriageway on the M6 Toll motorway.
(2) In this regulation "specified length of carriageway" means -
(a) the M6 Toll motorway northbound carriageway between marker post numbers MP 44/4 + 50 and MP 45/7+90; and
(b) the M6 Toll motorway southbound carriageway between marker post numbers MP 30/6+05 and MP 29/0+70.

Right, I'll set the record straight. the speed limit on the M6 Toll is 70 Mph, 50/30 near toll booths though. If you go over these speed limits, and get caught doing it you'll get fined and get points just like on any normal road.
Its the same as doing a burnout in a car park. Theres public access to the car park, so all normal road regulations apply. therefore if you get caught doing a burnout, you'll get done for dangerous driving etc.
I live 2 miles from the start of the road, so the local press have gone mad over covering as much as possible about the road , hence why i know quite a bit about it .
One thing i have heared is that ther are apparently cameras that take a picture of your registration when you get onto the motorway, and when you leave, compare the distance you've travveled and the time taken, and work out your speed. If you've done it at over 80 mph average speed, you get sent a speeding ticket. Only a roumour though, but could be easy to do i suppose.

I use the toll road frequently.
Its 70mph like any other motorway.
Its policed by the normal police like any other motorway.
It was built with Tax payers money like any other motorway.
There are signs like any other motorway.
I have seen 4 people stopped by the police so far, I have scene 2 crashes that had police at the scene.
So yes its the same as any other motorway....a few things though at present it has no cameras on it (this is because the want people to use it) also 9 out of 10 motorists using it do well over the speed limit, my van does over a hundred and I have to stick in the slow lane as every one over takes me.
So yes its policed but at the moment its a bit of a free for all in terms of speed.

a fair few, I wouldnt say busy though, in rush hour it really is worth the money as you save so much time. The M6 through spagetti junction is a nightmare most times of the day so if I have the choice I use it and put the cost through the buisness.
It will get busier as people relaise how much time it saves you.

Surely the regular M6 will become less busy though? Might not be worth changing if the new one catches on!

yes but everyone else might think this, so the M6 will probably stay busy, then theres everyone who doesnt want to pay an extra toll to use the roads...

Its not gonna be hard to prove you went over the limit is it? They know how long the road is, they'll have the time it took you to do it, speed = distance/time?
It works in france like that, so i cant see why it wont work over here sadly
