all mobile phones cost several hundred pounds. the average cost of an unconnected contract handset is £300. even on a £15 a month contract you will pay out a total of £180 in line rental, plus the cost of any additional calls/texts/mms. the store alone will make up to £160 from the network for connecting the customer. all the networks are totally against unlocking but it is a problem that is totally out of their hands

correct but you are only contracted in to pay a minimum monthly line rental. for all they you might just not use your mobile very often

Yeah suppose so.

I'm playing devils advocate here btw, just wanted to sound out all possible things not have a pop.

There's nothing at all law-wise I can find. I assume its never been taken anywhere.

No its staying on Orange Munch

I've got a completely new one boxed upstairs that I 'upgraded' to (same handset exactly) but never got around to swappings numbers etc. over. I'm very tempted to get it on eBay for 100 quid but the day after I sell it this one will break!

cpw is its own service provider on most networks, similar to singlepoint. i assume when you get your bill it comes from cpw instead of the network? they would have no proof that the phone was damaged on purpose or left unattented

it is probably to do with the insurance they provide as it only covers accidental damage

Each code corresponds to different locks: 1 - MNC+MCC (MCC - Mobile Country Code, MNC - Mobile Network Code)
2 - GID1 (Group ID)
3 - GID2
4 - IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity)
5 - MCC+MNC, GID1
6 - MCC+MNC, GID1, GID2
7 - All locks (Multilock)

You should always try code 7 and 1 first. To get the 'p' push your '*' key 3 times, the 'w' is the '*' pushed 4 times. Don't forget to remove SIM-card, when entering codes! After entering unlock code phone will display: "SIM restriction off" - when lock has been successfully removed; "Code error" - when entered unlock code is wrong;

"Can't undo restriction" - when you've tried to enter wrong codes too many times; You have only 5 tries to enter proper unlock codes! After that your phone can be unlocked only via cable, unlock codes won't work anymore!
