i was gona few months ago
40gb cheapest saw was 366
read some stuff
battery only last a yr until u notice the loss
8hrs down to 4hrs on a full charge

250 for 15gb
300 for 30 gb and 400 for 40gb
go on apple site sign up in education section if ur student to get it cheaper

I bought a 40gb 4th generation Ipod a few weeks ago for £300 from the apple store.
If you only going to carry a small collection of music go for the 20gb model and if you are gonig to carry under 50ish albums then go for the 5GB 'mini' model that has just came out.

I got myself a Samsung YHH-920 for £130 on a staff deal
They're meant to be £250
It's one of the "napster" one's so plays mp3s, not Aac like apple does, so doesn't have to be converted.
Nice little thing, got no complaints with it.
Ipods. the battery isn't covered under warranty anyway, from what i remember, and you do NOT get 8 hours.
Although it depends on how loud u listen to them. My mate's got one, and it's pretty good.
The mini's look much nicer

But look around, Apple is overpriced I think but its a nice little unit with a great interface, size is nice too.
Everyone who I knew who owned an ipod said they did the job well so I just opted for an ipod instead of researching about, in the end its a mp3 player.

I think the battery issue has been resolved in the 4th gen Ipods but I'm not sure. I only use my ipod on my 1hour commute to work and back then once I'm home it gets slapped back onto the dock to recharge/whatever
