if your doing the conversion and not looking to spend any money on tuning i would recommend the 16valve, as long as its been serviced recent cam belt etc...
i like the 8valves but i'm biased because i own one!
if ur looking for more power out of the engine since ur transplanting you may as well go for the 1600 16v.
the 2.0 wont cost anything near the 1.6 to convert!
also the 1.4 16v costs a lot more if it goes wrong.....

the 1.6 was an option, but insurance and tax are way too fucking expensive

XE engines are sweet as a nut as long as they are serviced at correct times and oil and coolant are checked regularly. Do this and it will easily see 150k miles.
