BMW don't ask for a chassis number for normal stuff and the parts are not that expensive. Although my aerial is in the rear screen so you'd have a hard time nicking one.....
yes they do..
Not from my experience, i went in countless time's to get smaller part's and wasn't once asked for a chassis number.
Matt
Yep, same here. Got my clear lights, various interior trim, engine parts.....
No chassis number required. I do have to give a chassis number at Toyota though.

In my defence....
1) im not the kind of person whosteals things - never nicked anything before but desperate times call for desperate measures.
2) I didnt have time to order a new mirror and fit it without my mum finding out id smashed it
3) anyone who drives a car like that (and bmw's)and stays in norbreck castle can afford to replace a wing mirror - im just a student
4) im a girl so tosser doesnt sound right - bitch would be better
5) I didnt feel big, i felt bad but needs must
In conclusion........
Im very sorry to the owner of that car, but i only took the glass not the whole unit, so its not the end of the world, but i do apologise. stealing is wrong.
