In not sure about a 14 inch spare, but if you had a 15inch spare instead you would be fine the 15 and 17 both have around the same roling radious (SP) with the 17's have a low profile tyre and the 15 not

Doesn't really matter if the radius is different, it'll get you home. I wouldn't go too far though, its not great for the diff and of course your handling will be a little bit wild.
My car has 17s as standard and a 16" spare, now run 18s with same spare and it'll be OK.
Wouldn't pass an MOT.
Same issue if you have a directional tyre as well, the spare is only suitable for one side of the car. As with the other stuff it'll get you home if necessary.
