Suppose there's that way of looking at it, but then why have loads of companies decided to make tuning bits for it?

or the fact that it is a compact unit, light and well suited to small cars like the kit car. (info provided by a 3rd party who will remain known as Jeff)

my mates uncle has a c20xe on tb's in a mk2 escort. apparently around 225bhp. i have to agree that these engines are quite commonly used in motorsport. could be because you can pick them up realy cheaply now.

no shit sherlock
but like I said before - engine block is small, light, easy to purcahse cheap, lots of tunning parts around.
p.s are you insinuating that your years of watching your dad race scooters and the FACT that you drives (rides???) a moped into work means that you HAVE a background in motorsport

IMO I think Toyota's 2.0 litre 3S-GE engine is one of the best ever built. Lovingly refered to by Toyota Engineers as their "sweet 16"
This double overhead cam, 16 valve engine incorporates an Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) to boost low end torque and provide judicious acceleration - 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds. Maximum power of 173bhp at 7,000rpm.

IMO a series is best engine ever, been turboed, supercharged, tunned and messed with yesrd before the rest, still being used today and getting silly power out of them

My 2.0 Corsa can taken VR6. Very close, but then mines only a 4 pot 2.0 16v, not a VR6 2.8/9!
Daimo - I think you're getting a bit carried away with this red top thing. Yes it's a great engine but the standard VR6 performance figures are:
2.8 - 174 bhp and 172 lb/ft of torque
2.9 - 190 bhp and 184 lb/ft of torque
A 2.8 in a lardy Golf VR6 will hit 60mph in 7.4; top speed 140mph
A 2.9 Corrado will hit 60mph in 6.7; top speed 146mph
You might just get away from the VR6 Golf up to 60, but after that he'd leave you. Against a Corrado, you'd be left behind pretty much from the start and this car handles very sweetly, so you'd be even more emabarrased round the twisty stuff. If you 'took' a VR6, he probably wasn't trying that hard.
For what it's worth, I think the red top is a great engine; very affordable, durable and good power output for its age and capacity. I also think that of the C/X16XE - the engine I have. But I'm under no illusions - a Honda 1.6 VTEC using a more modern design makes 160bhp, revs to 8.5Krpm out of the box as STANDARD. The 2L VTEC makes just under 200bhp as standard. And Honda have NEVER had a VTEC fail on them - ever!
Now that is good engine design
