DId my first proper flight yesterday from East Mids to Heathrow (ya gotta start somewhere)
Landing was a bit cagey but other than that it werent too bad.
Whats the gen with the flight plans, do you need to print em off to follow them or make them up yourself?
Downloaded Jumbo 747 but damned if i can get it to work with the program. Heathrow Pro is good tho

when creating a flight select IFR rules then you just follow ATC's commands by adjusting the heading and altitude on the MCP.
Then lock onto ILS for runway capture

I was a little stuck last night,
I done the following,
Went to new flight
Selected a 737
then selected heathrow to cardiff using direct GPS
I clicked fetch route and it found where it was going and showed the way points,
Clicked fly now
however the course was not set into the auto pilot?
what do i hae to do to make this happen??

u cannot do this with default planes, if you got the 737 NG then you can program the route in the FMC using waypoints etc, BUT the easiest way is to ignore GPS (737's dont have GPS in real life anyway) and follow ATC commands and adjust the MCP accordingly when they give you a command. You will get ATC commands when setting up an IFR route

VFR routes are not advised for new flyers, or flyers unfamiliar with the planes, and certainly not for default planes

VFR - Visual Flight rules (i think)
IFR - Instrument Flight rules (i think)
You can only do vfr in certain conditions. for example clear skys etc

VFR Visual Flight rules
IFR Instrument Flight rules
you can only fly VFR when not in Class A airspace, most commercial flights use jet airways which are Class A airspace, besides at FL300 + your to high to see any VFR waypoints
MCP is the computer where u set heading altitude etc, FMC is the Flight Management Computer for setting waypoints, take off, flaps, GW of the plane loads and loads of things on there.
To lock onto ILS you need to tune the airports ILS frequency on the NAV1 and NAV2 radios then set the correct runway heading on the MCP, when close enough the plane will lock onto the ILS frequency and when app mode is selected will initiate a landing

when using IFR rules the atc will guide you to a correct approach for an ils landing anyway
