Perhaps you're the loser for buying them in the first place? Pre-empting your intention to use them on your car.

I know someone who was stopped by the boys in blue for displaying a green light from his corsa sri. Told him if he saw them on again it was a ticket! Tubes were all hidden and no direct light could be seen, but sometimes if you argue it only makes them worse, so he just accepted it and switched em off.
