good cars, reliable and easily tuned. Sort yourself out a nice remap from Jabbasport (not AMD as mentioned above, avoid them) ABD turbo intake pipe, exhaust, decat, FMIC and TB - FMIC silicone hose and your laughing away with 220bhp ish. Audi is all round a better car with the same engine, but also slightly heavier i believe. Also, upgrade the diverter valve for a forger version as they are much more reliable, the standard ones just dont last at all.

The A3 you were looking at might be a quattro, so quicker off the line due to 4wd.

A3 and Golf are about the same weight. Ibiza is lighter however.

My Ibiza 1.8T 20V has around 200bhp and 200lb/ft and is standard apart from a Star Performance remap.

Best £/bhp you can get is from a remap.

Next step would be FMIC, K03S turbo, and another remap and you will be about 230bhp and 230lb/ft, maybe a bit more depending how much boost you run, seen one at 246bhp and 260lb/ft.

Or you could stick an IHI turbo on instead of a K03S and get over 300bhp and 300lb/ft.

Common things that go wrong include... throttle bodies, coil packs, and MAF sensors.

i drove a mates 4 door.... which has a superchip... so 192BHP according to the dyno print outs he showed me....

anyways.... i took it up to 125MPH(private road ) bare in mind i was only driving a 1.2 8v at the time so this was by far the fastest i'd driven......

it was the most boring experience of my life..... it didnt feel like i was going fast at all.... the car does all the work....

Yesh watch coilpacks and MAF sensor if you fit induction kit.

The tuning potential for this engine is huge, it has forged internals and can handle well over 300bhp on said internals.

AMD remap, KO3S turbo, Downpipe, sports cat and zorst. and youve got a little flyer.

can get to about 340bhp withoyut having too much concerns on the internals, any more and you are wanting to upgrade the pistons and rods. As said common problems are MAF sensors, Stepper motors in the throttle body, coilpacks. Induction kits on the VAG engines can cause problems, oiled filters in particular and most people tend to go for unoiled filters/induction kits to try and prevent an MAF failure. They are about 80 quid on an exchange basis now. Best company to use for remaps is jabbasport, ive now seen AMD mentioned a few times and that is one company id seriously recommend avoiding. Every day i seem to hear more bad things about them and they constantly messed me about when i phoned them for advice ages ago. If you get the newer 1.8T engine with VVT then a remap alone can bring these up to 210-220bhp but the K03 isnt suitable for over 230bhp so any more is wanted its a turbo upgrade wich isnt all that cheap. Best turbo upgrade available is the IHI from jabba, or there is the option of a GT28RS from impossible performance which is good for 400bhp but there are bigger ones available that can give you 500bhp+

Yeah that's until you change the ARB's and uprate the shocks and springs. Then the handling is very good indeed

later golfs and leons have the KO3s which with VVT can give 230hp
