i belive the vtec system revs higher as it has variable lift controlled by oil pressure, at certain revs the oil pressure increases shooting a metal rod through a locating hole which locks into place causing a redundant valve to start working which has bigger lift

So I was miles off then

But on a normal non VVT type engine my statement at the top is correct.

the pockets them selves wont change the power band, but fitting cams with higher lift and having pockets to accomodate this lift will shift the power band yes, its only safe if ya engine is built to rev high, ie fit arps, steel rods, etc etc the higher the revs the more expensive it gets

nope.....

just allowing more air/fuel in..... but the valve is open for shorter times, meaning you have to rev faster to get all the 'potential' air in

'Kin ell - this is exactly what I need - 1 Omega piston and 4 ring sets (albeit 80mm size). I'm getting on the phone to SBD now, but am prepared for bad news...

Good News, and to wallace

I think them phoning Omega over and over from diff lines etc has got there bums in gear! They are starting production of those rings again

they will be back in touch asap with a timescale for production/delivery
