having been in both (well not a P1, but a 280bhp scoob) I can safely say the BMW will never have the blistering launch of a scoob with the same power

I can also say unless you are extremely confident in the M3 your not going to feel like thrashing it through any twisties in the wet... whereas in the scoob feels a much more stable platform... no arse out business...

The M3 is an awesome set-up car, but does not lend itself to wet roads very well at all.... well at least the E36 Evo doesnt...

Had an E36 M3 Evo a couple of years ago!

The worst car I have ever had!!! I know the E46 is a very different machine but its turned me off BMW's for life!

It was too heavy, wallowy, far too safe, far too comfortable.........just not raw enough! There is now way Id ever take it out on a Sunday morning just for a blast!!

I prefer the rawness of the P1, the noise, the 4 wheel drive security, the looks etc etc, the list is endless!

E46 M3 has switchable traction control, which me and a friend had a play with, and didnt really like. Probably quite good in the wet, but on a dry road surface the car felt like it went better with the traction control switched off...

Stu, if you dislike the E36 for those reasons you must really hate the E46!!

Its a heavier car, and has extra driver aids which the E36 didnt... making it, IMO, more boring than the E36

Dont get me wrong, it was a great car for say, getting to a business meeting in Bradford before 1pm, it was safe, comfortable, reliable etc etc......all the things I hate in a performance car! Leather seats in a car your gonna be taking round a track????

I have heard that compared to the E30 M3 and the E46 M3 the E36 M3 is a bit of a let down which I do take into account.

I have had a couple of tussles with E46 M3's in the P1 (which is 321bhp at the last RR session) and have never had a problem whether it be launching, in gear or round bends. The BIG thing that lets the P1 down is the brakes.........but this is in hand, just waiting for the 355mm kit to turn up then itll out brake them aswell! *A quick note on the above..........as most M3 drivers are middle aged business men, it is unlikely that they were giving it 100% like I was, but it wasnt even close anyway!
