I don't see the point of taking the turbo off a YB engine, and spending loads to make it N/A, when you can tune a Zetec engine thats already N/A .

I'd call 3-4k at an engine pretty expensive really.
If you keep your eyes peeled you can pick them up for as little as 500 quid and then save up for the rest or spend a bit of time sourcing bargains or even buy bits second hand from reputable traders/dealers.
The full retail cost of my CVH install was somewhere between 6 and 7 K in 1998 so 4 or 5 for a Cosworth engine would seem to be a bit of a bargain, especially as you can feasibly spend £40,000+ on a full house motorsport spec engine developed by Mountune for instance.

you take the turbo off to make it more driveable, we had the idea of yb on tb;s in kit car rather then the boost kicking you sideways!!
I was glad you said mk2 rather than mk5 escort as my xe kills the good old mk5 rs2000!

with a tuned yb you dont want the boost kicking in when you going sideways, otherwise your end up in a feild, if its N/A is much more drivable

MK 1 and 2 Escorts are RWD and have live axles, so are better suited to the more linear nature of aspirated power over that of turbo engines. Turbo power makes them even more lethal than they already are.
The Pinto is a relatively old fashioned engine and expensive to tune properly.
In the past, people who have managed to cheaply obtain a salvaged YB engine (invariably minus it's ancilaries) from a smashed car for instance have invariably transplanted the unit into their car after doing a bit of head work ( different valves and port/chamber work) fitting a new set of pistons along with a cheapish pair of manifolds and either carbs or throttle bodies that they may already have owned or salvaged economically from another source.
The net result would be a very drivable car and an economically produced power plant capable of high revs, and that would make good torque and reliable power in the region of 200 bhp. To obtain this level of power from a Pinto - say to keep in your two litre class for instance would require a lot more work, all steel, dry sump etc. and a lot more outlay - somewhere between 5 and 6.5K
Fitting the Zetec and Vauxhall engines in the right car is always very nice, but in RWD Escorts, it's just wrong, and this seems to have been the opinion of many Escort builders over the years.
The number of YB transplants is testament to this, and due to the Pinto natured origin of the Cosworth YB's block, it is obviously the power plant of choice, and infinitely more correct on a heritage basis.
And anyway, who'd want a zetec engine when they could have the legend that is the Cosworth YB lump purring under their bonnet?
Far less impressive down the pub aswell:
'I've put a Zetec in my MK II...'
'why?...'
silence
--------------------------------------------------------
'I've put an aspirated Cossie lump in my MK II'
'SWEET! WHEN CAN WE SEE IT?!'

I ended up in a field in my standard 1300 MK II back in my college days
My mates had to hacksaw the barbed wire off the poor old girl so I could drive out again - The cows got very mooey with us for disturbing them aswell.
Wet country lanes eh
