Any alarm will cause you problems if its fitted by a monkey. I've got a clifford 500 and its been perfect, car before that had a cobra, again perfect. All down to the install.

Alarms are really quite a simple install... A couple of splices onto somekey wires in the car and its done...
The hard part is taking trim apart, laying wiring and putting it all back again neatly.
The major problem with clifford is the fact that they use kinda modules in their alarms.
When you get a say basic clifford you have 1 module,
when you get a better one you have the basic module + another one to do another feature..
When you get say the best one you can have up to 5 different boxes.
Now this is not a problem if they are all installed correctly. HOWEVER. what alot of people do is install all the modules together in a close area. All the modules then kind of play off each other when your trying to access one and they all go tits up!
They really need to be spaced apart and install with shielding around them...
The electronics inside a clifford is no different to that of inside a toad, sigma etc etc...
Its all in the install.

i always thought a alarm is as good as its fitted.
not worth buying a top notch alarm and having it fitted by apparent professionals
like most things you pay for what you get...pay someone good money to fit it then im sure you wont have problems

had two clifford alarms, never had one problem with them in 3 years, its only the vauxhall alarm that caused my car to stall and cut out, took 2 years to source the problem. Car Electronics in leicester fitted both of mine they are the dog danglies

i have the clifford 650 with the 950 add ons (anti-jack,proximity etc etc) & think its great ,not had any problems with it ,altho i 100% agree it depends on the person fittin it & how good he is with alarm systems ,i'd recommend clifford to anyone goin on my experience with clifford systems but each to their own i guess...

i have an clifford avital maxx 3, its been in over 3 years and had no problems what so ever, the place i had it done did a great job.... they also fitted the central locking to

GAP did it for me. really good and no probs
only thing is that my clifford likes to go off for no realy reason that i can see in the middle of the night etc. i guess it just needs tonein down or something 
i hate taking my car to garages etc, so i love being in the knowledge taht my alarm is pissing them off as they never no how to use it!

i agree with everyone else, it all depends on how well a job the people fitting the alarm do. Also Cat1 i believe is how it is fitted not the alarm itself.
I had two people come out to fit my Clifford 300 on my old Corsa. Took them 3-4 hours to do it but they done a good job. Also got the tilt/motion sensor which i thought was wicked when i tested it. I got my car jack out and as soon as you start to lift the car up a bit the alarm goes off! A must if you have expensive wheels because it sounds before they even get started on putting your car on bricks, where without it the alarm wouldn't sound at all.
Only problem i had with my alarm was on windy nights it would tend to go off. Did bug me because i didn't want to upset the neighbours because if someone did actually try to brake in my car, they would jsut think its my stupid alarm. Only reason it did go off like this was because the sensor needed adjusting which i could have got done free but i didn't get round to it.
Anyway i do rate Clifford alarms and will be getting one soon again on the Sax

Clifford concept 300 fitted in sept 2002.
Its now apr 2005 and ive never had a single problem other than IMO the remote batteries dont last long enough.
Got mine done at a local ice place not monkeys did a good job
