I think it became a bit of a silly competition.
I.e I like big wheels on small cars, so long as the surrounding bodywork contours to them to make them not look out of place. and no making an MDF bodykit to make an astra coupe take 20" wheels doesnt count.
But i think it was like you had to have the biggest hweels or a silly way of opening your doors or the most expensive (doesnt garuntee its the best) paint job to get you a cover.
I blame the fast and the furious.
It let chavs with no taste realise there are other cars other than mk3 escort convertibles out there to mod. They then got loads of loans with todays easy money now pay later. Blew it on wheels that cost more than the car and some gash adornation of fibreglass polygons to create what could only be deicribed as a hideous and utterly undriveable peice of....art
Makes perfect sense to me

i agree, but i feel the new corsa shape leaves little for smooth oppurtunities the shape is quite harsh and has some dramatic curves which will be hard to make euro.... but that recent light blue one was nice (cept the skirts).... but as u say subtle is the new black

no one said about it all going euro.
Painz's corsa has 17" wheels and no euro kit. But id still say its subtle.
If they left the factory looking like that, it would have been the best selling super mini ever IMO

thing is with subtle cars, is IMO you more likey to notice the cleaver little changes done to it
like flushed side reps, and lack of rear wiper etc etc

I would class your car as subtle Jambo
The Corsa in TV this month with the combat kit is very nice IMO as well.

ive only ever wanted subtle cars...i wanted a white orion ghia on a g plate...slammed on pepperpots, clear indicators and red ford badges....until insurance was harsh so i got a nova and carried on with subtle modding...i think its all about making a car the way you think it should be... so the individual SHOULD find as close as they can to it in a std form...I think some people lose it a bit...buy a car that was dirt cheap...then think of how to get it to how they want, its kinda psychological or something, think they just want a car...then decide to make it nice looking rather than considering one thats a chunk of the way there.
I dont think i would EVER fit a big kit...the idea is to enhance what it already has not to build it into something else...however there are times it does work...but i like it the subtle way too

It would seem now, that reading a lot of comments that people are now beginning to move away from the flipped out paint jobs, HUGE spoilers, Lexus lights, stupid front bumpers and are concentrating on making their cars look slick and to the point. Seen a lot of ‘put the originals back on’ or ‘fit smoked lights’ comments. Personally, I think this is good.
My favourite types of modded cars, tend to have subtle and neat touches. It’s the way the Nova boys went a few years ago. Gone...or going are the Kingdom rabbit hutches in favour of tidy originals with subtle mods and nice wheels.
Is that what a lot of you lot think? Or am I in my own little dream world?
it's not that people are moving away from it. its the people that like them are changing cars
huge spoilers, flip paints, huge wheels are only the in thing if you read max power or have the ambition to get into these magazines.

I couldn't disagree more.
OTT kits that are designed on an A4 sketch pad and then mass produced from a cheap mould to fit countless vehicles are truly opening the modifying world to the masses.
"Show cars" are no longer only for the wealthy or the grafters, now anyone can buy a kit off ebay and pay a mate a couple of quid to spray the car with Halfords paint tins.
What's the point in fitting small alloy wheels? Even better is that each wheel size is given a unique number "17, 18, 19" etc. This magic number is directly proportional to how great you are - the bigger the number, the more people will love you. Remember, there is always a number bigger than the one you have - why settle for second best? You're only cheating yourself out of greatness!

VW/VAG owners have been doing this for years and have developed the style so far that its become so anal about subtle OEM+ cars that a new style is coming out which is a lot more aggressive in terms of looks but with the same quality and attention to detail the subtle look had.
IMHO the vauxhall scene will be playing catch up to the VAG/VW scene for many years to come.
There will allows be a place to very extravagant OTT cars as that's what keeps the interest for the masses and gets new people into the scene. IT would be very boring if we all drove speedline, GSI kitted corsas wouldn't it

Maybe back in 1994... Euro styling has evolved big time, people just don't know it.

subtle and euro are NOT interchangable in the slightest.
Proper euro style cars have huge bumpers, weel arches ect. Subtle yes a simular styling, but proper euro styling is not subtle like people are didcussing above
