Why when you buy a new car do you only have certian boost, or rpm levels??
Why when you rebuild an engine must you take it easy say 2k revs maximum for the first 500 miles and 4k after that!
Its to bed everything in so it lasts longer and the parts lubricate and function correctly

What I'm saying is you don't need to run the engine in like you used to with old engines, it's not light you need to get the right ammount of pitting and polishing in the bores e.t.c.... because it's all done when the engine is being built. Take a brand new engine for example, if you drove it like you would with an old engine the same age in the 'running in' period you would damage it by 'polishing' the bores too much and making it run hotter thus causing oild cosumption to increase. If you replace a full set of gaskets then you obviously need to run the engine genntly until you re-torque the head bolts after the first hundred or so miles.

Well I spent more than £200 on parts. Just an oil pump is £65+VAT, cam belt set is expensive, full gasket set is expensive...
A 'rebuild' is not a specific thing -- you have a choice what to and what not to replace. I did a lot on mine except the oil pump at first, drove it 100 miles, went to start it again, and the oil pump died so it's back in having that...

Since when has a C20XE an engine design nearly 20 years old been a modern engine?
You telling me a nice new rebuilt engine that is tight as a nuns c4nt is not going to be run in?

The C20XE is a modern engine though. It's got electronic fuel injection for a start, not exactly pre-historic is it...

I would say get as much rebuilt as you can afford before the engine goes in. Im speaking from experience as i had a slight mis-hap with mine after only doing the basics. Ive had 2 days use of my car since march!

Em... when i got it put in originally i got a new cambelt, new water pump, new clutch, obviously an oil change and spark plugs i think.
Then it bent a piston and 2 valves so gonna get a bit of a rebuild done to it.
Getting mahle 86.5mm pistons and bored out cylinders, arp conrod bolts, new cambelt and tensioners, head gasket and bolts, 2 valves, maybe valve stem seals, head skimmed, sump gaskets, inlet gasket.
Think thats about it.

geeze thats bad luck, what was the millage like and do you know what caused the engine to go GAY fuckery?
my 60kish engine has had new cambelt/waterpump/clutch/sealed headed/big end bearings, obviously new gaskets to get to them parts.
bit worrying!
