In My TD Corsa I would normally drive it to 3k --> 3.5k is this bad? Sometimes I even hold it to 5k.. its amazn when you cange gear from there, the burst torque is amazing.. The 1.5TD is designed to be given the welly, the turbo doesnt work untill after 2k..

I never rag it when it's cold. Always wait for the oil temp to reach the 'optimum marker' - but when it does I change where I feel it should be changed, 1st it just winds round very quickly then into 2nd, then about 6500-6800 rpm. (limiter is aroun 7250 rpm) ... my peak power is only around 6500 rpm so pointless taking it any further.

But only when I'm wanting to go quickly. Most of the time I just drop it into 4th and blub around at like 1k-1.5k rpm... saving petrol Tight student.

I disagree, if you take it to the limiter then change gear you will fall further into your powerband ie 5.5k instaed of 4k and hence go faster...ken

no ken.

You have Cams I do not.

Your power band is higher up the revs than mine. hence for you it pays off to rev to redline as the power tails off up there, and comes in later

Just checked your profile - your car makes peak power at 7000 RPM. Standard gti makes it at 6200 rpm, and mine I'm guessing around 6400rpm. Thus once you pass peak power it trails off and you might as well change gear.
