Thanks for the comments all. Nice to hear
The 182 Cup is not quite as stripped as the 172 Cup as it still has air con etc and only saves about 20kg over the standard 182.
Not sure on exact performance figues but EVO timed the standard 182 at 6.6 to 60 and the Cup at 6.5 and then on to 100 is about 17.5 IIRC.
The steering didn't provide much feedback in the Type R which put me off although the V Tec was more fun than I imagined. Also save 6k by getting the Clio!
Robbo - Golf GTI are awesome. Couldn't find one o test drive but I;ve seen a couple on the road and they have surprising presence. Look great in grey!

I like the heritage behind them but fear that the majority will just think they're white stripes I put there for no reason.

People with brains and intrest in cars would know the stripes are standard and should be kept.
I don't like them and would'nt have them on my car, but anyway.

They're a reference to the Gordini cars, all of which were that blue with off centre white stripes.
Although I think it'll only be older drivers/those with a real interest in motoring that will recognize that. The rest will just think that its a blue Clio with white stripes.

saw a feature on top gear or 5th gear cant remeber and they said about the history of the stripes and what they represent, i say keep em, like you say anyone that knows about these well understand why they are there, and those that dont........sod em
Good choice of motor, if i were to get another non turboed hatch it would more than likely be one of these.......nice

Car looks cool as and leave the stripes! They are there for a reason so arnt chav
Cup pack is a must on a 182 IMO, feck the aircon, i'm sure the blast from your window at 100mph whilst going down a bumpy B road should be enough to keep you cool

Cheers Greg. Yes, the stripes were £95 but I had no choice on them as I bought the car from stock in order to get it quicker!

Also considered a Civic Type R and a Cooper S. I already have a Cooper which I'll be keeping for a while but I loved the S to bits. Didn't like the Type R much TBH. Clio and Type R felt about the same in terms of real world pace but when it came down to the price differential there was only one winner.
Should be here next week
hope the build quality is better on the 182 compared to the 172. be prepared for rattles
