Dave,
one thing i was always wary about with the downloads was that some of them wouldn't be very well made and would corrupt or fill it with glitches.
Can you recommend certain addons that have come from trusted sources and are known to work without problems?
I used to play Morrowind and wanted to upgrade sounds and stuff, the addons were poor and made the game unplayable

i have downloaded and installed fuckin hundreds of addons into FS, and not once has it messed up. the CFG files are made in such a way in that FS will not load files that dont follow a certain string, so its impossible to mess up, but its never happened to me. www.projectopensky.com make good freeware aircraft, and you cant go wrong when downloading new sound files from avsim, since they are only WAV or MP3 format. www.avsim.com is a service to millions so they always make sure that the downloads are safe, over 70,000 of them in the library now. generally, if you want to find the best sounds for a 737 CFM56 equipped aircraft, just search in their file library and arrange files by number of downloads, the most downloaded are normally the best.
Must have download though is called Airport Environment Upgrade 7, turns every airport into a buzzing realistic place. 63329 at avsim.
our A320 has 67735 though, making it the most popular aircraft for FS2002 when before FS2004 didnt exist.

Jamie there are 23,000 airports available throughout the world, and Bournemouth airport is actually fairly accurate according to main building/runway positions. not authentic though, that would be impossible for MS to do.
just checked avsim, and there is an AFCAD available for download which places all the correct gates, and a bit of searching will find a scenery download thats a replica of real life EGHH.
here is an interesting site for WW2 airfields.

one of them is Holmsley AB which is close to Bournemouth Intl, and i have actually camped there as it is now a camp site hehe

do you know of any addon to stop the runways from being completly flat?

how do you mean paul? runways are generally pretty flat concrete/asphalt surfaces, apart from Manchester with its dodgy sloping runway. FS2004 wouldnt deal well with that to be honest.

well the runways in fs2004 are completly flat, like a table, where as alot of real life runways, like at small airports (bristol, old sarum) are up a slope. Guess its the terain mesh....

answer my question about engine failures Dave
what happens when they occur?
do the passengers run up and down the aisle screaming "we're going to die" and call their loved ones on their mobiles?

no they do not david. there is a procedure known as flt-restart, it goes..
Engine Start Switches - FLT
Engine Start Levers - CUTOFF
EGT decreasing..
Engine Start Levers - IDLE
APU START & ON BUS
if unsuccesful, good idea to radio ATC and declare emergency, then a case of shutting everything off including AC Packs and trying a hard-start using APU bleed air

yes i know, but you are right it depends on the scale of the SRTM mesh being used, LOC 73m should be good to enact runway slope, but have never encountered a noticable slope on FS?
