I was 23 when i had mine and with 0 no claims it was £800 with Elephant..
I hated mine when i sold it! It developed a fault that can only have been one of the millions of sensors and even pug couldn't find any fault! But one day it just lost performance and sounded shite shame as it was a nice enough motor when i first got it.
Pics in me garage BTW Black Y reg

Depends on the car, any car can be realiable/unreliable.
I had mine for 2 years, ranted the hell out of it on a regular basis and had no issues. Other people have loads of probs, same with any car.

Had a lot of trouble finding the problem with my blue one; turned out to be a £12 sensor; but spent almost £1K finding it; found all the dealers i tried were absolutley useless and a local garage solved it in mins Can look good tho with a few simple mods and not changing the standard kit

Yeah, expensive if they go wrong, crap gearboxes and clutches, peddles to close together BUT look good, good interior, fast out of the box, good handling (if you drive it properly) lift off oversteer can be a serious issue with them.
Cheap nowdays as well.
For me the cons outweigh the pros and ontop of everything the build quality is horrendous, dents appear from going over 80mph.

My girls has a really good one, well looked after, she pays £660 FC with 1yrs NCB thats with Diamond she was also 23 when she took the policy out.
Very quick cars for a 1.6 16v, gives my 2ltr corsa a run for its money and it handles like a go kart specially with whats been done to it.

The temp sensor under the bonnet; was giving negative readings when obviously it wasnt causing it to throw in extra fuel and flood it; but cos the part hadnt stopped working no fault codes came up on the ECU!!

from my experience i had no problems with it apart from gearbox, cracking motor, you dont buy one for the build quality you buy one for its nippyness and agility
they arent as unreliable as people make out

TBH most of the things that people said about them were wrong!
The gearbox was fine in mine, maybe a bit loose but felt ok.My interior never felt cheat it was mint grey alcantara and black leather with white dials etc..mind you i had a Y reg.The handling was never that good either it snapped back which is scary
The best thing about it was the brakes..oh and keeping up with a Focus RS from 20 to 70 in 2nd and 3rd gear
