but the corsa is a much better car and the 1.4 16v engine is VERY tunable, reliable and strong. i know 3 people that had a fiesta 1.25 and all had problems with engine internals.

fiesta over a corsa, just because of the handleing alone, mine was lowered 60mm on 15s and it showed much more powerful cars up on the bends.
pics of my old fiesta in my garage

unlucky or not, engine reliability with the 1.25 ford engines has always been an issue.
the corsa 1.4 16v is much stronger and can be tuned well with the right mods, the corsa is also quicker, stronger, safer in a crash, cheaper to insure, more comfortable, more reliable, doesnt feel 'tinny', looks better, easier to work on and less likely to be stolen.
thats my opinion anyway

but the insurance on a 1.2 16v sxi is actually more expensive that a 1.4 16v sport in most cases. i had an sxi as a runabout for a while and when i changed it for a sport, the insurance actually went down! other users on here have found the same thing.

Probably to do with young drivers stacking them I guess, weird anyway
Trust me, the 1.2 8 valve is so fucking slow it's a joke, but they are bulletproof, so IMO go for the 1.2 8 valve as for your first car if you get anything fast (ish...like a 1.4 sport) you will probably stack it (not making generalisations, just stating the truth)
The 1.2 8 valve can be hammered all day long and very rarely fuck up

I've got a 1.25 mk4 fiesta and comparing it to my mates old 1.2 8v the corsa is shit in comparison
Fiesta is more responsive, smoother, comftier and looks remotely modern compared to the 8v
Mine was rolling roaded the other day at 90bhp (optimax works well with just a filter and exhaust )
They also handle alot better than a corsa imo, after having the "pleasure" of driving both.
I dont think you will be disapointed in one as a first car to be honest

Basically -
Fiesta 1.25 16v = 75 bhp 0-60 in about 11?
Corsa 1.2 8v = 45 bhp 0-60 in about 18 seconds.
I would of thought the fiesta would be more expensive.
As said though, a Corsa 1.2 16v - is 65 bhp or 75 bhp (mine was 75) - and just a tad slower than the fiesta.

I have also driven a 1.25 fiesta (and been in one) and yes they're not rapid... when compared to say a 2.0 16v corsa or a Gti. They are dog slow compared to ferrari's and scoobys.
Compared to similar cars people have when 17 / 18 - they're fairly nippy though.
