I'd have thought so. But TechWorld claims that it instead makes the UI hardware independant.

OK Johnny boy you seem to know your OS' quite well
do you think that Vista will in effect revolutionise OS copying, as in hardly ANYONE will have a copied version? Or will it turn out like all the others

I've not looked into what measures they've went to this time as it hasn't been a big theme.
I doubt it though and imo it'll be like everything else.
They are making it more awkward though with having windows genuine validation etc.
I'll be keeping an eye on it in the meantime though.

true, took me ages to some out a key for xp. Then again i managed in the end and i'm hardly mr technical.

Its not the keys now.
Its easy to get a key.
Its not being able to download anything easily after that.
WGA which is in most ms software now means it won't install if your key isn't valid.

exactly that.
You can install the OS, but not update the major security patches.
You can even bypass the WGA process, but like with Windows defender, if you got to install it, it still knows your up to no good.

IF not, try and download windows defender beta 2 (worth a download anyhow), and see if you can install it.

it looks like vista could be really good (like the ui, modular etc), but give it time and it will be cracked wide open and you'll be able to pop on to your local internet "shop" and get it for nout, and putting three different versions on on cd/dvd will be easily sodded over - which makes a bit of a stupid idea.
Thing is, new MS software wont beable to be installed, due to protection etc (though that will cracked soon after) but you will be able to use dodge copies of older packages like office etc.
and for updates, i just use Autopatcher - i dont get fixes regulary, but it doesn't cause me any problems
