However, you may be able to beat the car, but you would have difficulty keeping the speed up long enough to beat the helecopter.

the new range rover sport 5l supercharged hits 60 in about 7 seconds, thats faster than your average road car

Easy would beat one, esp if you could drive well. Don't get pressured and keep it smooth. I've raced them before, when 5 of them were going somewhere, and they did quite a bit of unesssary sideways off rounderbouts etc....

Didn't seem to fly through them at all. They are good drivers but were not making the most of the lines. I kept a distance and they didn't pull away. I easily could of gone faster on straights that I was.

our traffic dept has a few m3's, a couple of vectra VXR's too, mainly T5's, veccy GSI's and 530 diesel beemers.

Timrud, the lines driven are often taken as they provide better visibility around bends, not usually the quickest lines by a long way, as if you were on a track or something.
On roads yo need to be careful of people coming the other way, it is a totally different style of driving.

The carlton is a box on wheels, old, dated interior.

Yes it has a fast engine, but thats all its got going for it these days IMO
