yes, i abused it, i was seeing how fun it was, and it surprised me, seems to be pretty good on the twisties
bit slow, not much grip, clutch is slipping, but still fun
i'll put some oil in it and give it a checkover tomorrow
any idea how to do the thermostat Rob? seems like it might be a cambelt off job

bores have gone rusty cos its got no head on it
dont fancy running it again tbh
only problem with the spare head is its off my old engine, so i'd be building an X16XEL or until i can get it ported anyway

well... i banana'd the head, wouldnt hold water or anything, jr was here and it started spewing steam out of the exhaust when i topped it up
was also overfuelling and spitting flames between gears even changing at 4 ir 5k
went on holiday and left it at brosters house so he could find out what was wrong and try to fix it, get an MMS of my pistons
turns out he decided to whip the head off to see if it was warped, stealing the morettes in the process
so i get back off my holiday and have to find a new car cos corsa wouldnt work
cant have the block bored giving it to rob hayes so he can finish his engine
or i was giving it to him.....

what do you actually need from this block then?
cos i might be able to cobble together something from my X14 and an X16 block and some pistons

erm
crank+flywheel
starter motor + mount/bolts etc
3 bolts that hold the inner cambelt cover on
water pump possibly
idler rollers, again possibly
most of the coolant pipework
metal cam cover + bolts
alternator + mounts/bolts
im sure theres numerous other bits that im overlooking, hence why i thought it be better to have a full engine rather than get 7/8's complete and find im missing a bolt or something ridiculous

i dont understand.... why cant you bore the block, if its even needed?! Just hone the bores, new rings.
Strip the head, rebuild with new seals and freshly ground in valves.... fit metal headgasket after giving the head a skim.
Seems your going an expensive way to fix a potentially small problem

cos rob wants the crank and stuff
i could just rebuild it i suppose, wouldnt cost too much, but it'd be a standard 1.6, still need to get throttle bodies and stuff
hmmmmm..... i think you might be right though, could be a cheap fix, not worth throwing money away is suppose
