ok don't want to argue with people here but my job is to sell mazdas.
when i sell someone an rx8 i get them to ring for an insurance quote because i get comission off it. the car is a 1.3 but insurance companies rate it as the equivalent of a 2.6 *fact*
a new car comes with 12 months tax. the car has such high emmissions that it actually now falls into the highest bracket of tax

Most "respected" reviewers seem to give it the 2.6 thing also.

Right, please refer to the above diagram...
Each face of that triangle equates to 654cc. As you can see, the top and bottom faces are involved in compressing and burning the air fuel mix, whilst the left hand face is in the exhaust/intake phase.
So in one chamber, you have two compartments formed by the rotor, which have a combined capacity of 1300cc.
So you have two of the rotors as pictured above, 1300+1300 = 2600.

haha imagine the Mazda designers, design a sport looking coupe thingy that is probably quite heavy. Hmm what size engine shall we use 2.0 16v, V6, nah a 1.3 4 cylinder should suffice.

Imagine all the mazda designers just finishing the RX8 concept with it's 1.3, really happy, then they're given a picture of a 1.4 corsa...
