I agree entirely.

Believe it or not I actually asked our business development guy about the feasibility of literacy lessons via the site and he laughed it out of the conversation.

I still think its got mileage. This is a bigger problem than people on here saying 'learn English please'. Someone somewhere needs to pick it up, and while thats not members going to college to actually improve their skills it might fall to someone else.

I think I posted a poll as well, can't remember. Basically everyone thought I was going crazy.

It's not even just little typo's and spelling mistakes.

I regularly do both.

People actually don't know proper English and they are using words that either don't exist or are totally different from what they are trying to say.

this'll make you chuckle.

when i was at school, one of my teachers used to get her words mixed up.

she made the common mistake of saying 'pacific' instead of 'specific'

now thats bad enough in itself, but to make matters worse, she was a Geography teacher

also, most of our english teachers thought that 'H' was pronounced 'Haitch', when it should actually be 'Aitch'

the kids these days stand no chance when the teachers can't grasp English

I came across quite a lot of teachers in school who were teaching stuff that I knew to be incorrect actually now you mention it.

I don't really see people speaking like on here but I don't know as many people as there are on here and most of them are educated to at least a level of being able to hold a conversation.

Is this actually a nationwide problem then Ian?

Also this one - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/3358941.stm

I was affected directly by this as some of my stuff is adult but not basic skills, and higher level than GCSE. Net effect of needing to spend more on literacy and numeracy is that anyone wishing to learn advanced web design needs to pay more.

I agree.

Txt talk is one thing, but this whole brought bought is beyond reason.

At school I was terrible at English! It was my worst subject by far!

I just dont understand how people can repeatedly make the same mistakes!

The words they are trying to type dont even sound correct when spoken properly. The 'english' launage is going down hill too. A lot of English not prouncing R's, inserting a W sound into words

example:

I bought a new bike - I bowourt a new bike
I thought - I thort

Awight mate etc etc

Abedeen - THERE IS AN 'R' in there ABERDEEN

Scottish spoken isnt much better but it seems we have a grasp on how to pronouce R's

Another classic example:

Young girl at a party (20 maybe) came out with this statment. 'Who is it what done that' !!! Riiight! I hear this from southerns all the time!

People acting 'black' doesnt help either

My primary spoken language is French

I'm trying to speak and write proper english.

Even not being British born or don't come from a country with spoken English as language (we are in the Commonwealth though), I still smile/laugh when I see how bad some posts made here are..not typing or spelling mistakes...like an 'a' before an 'e' etc..but not using the correct words

yes,

dats tu mach....
