on the sunday yes, they open at 9am to the public, but 7:30 am to showcars
me, broster, adam-d turned up at about 7:50am last year to get in on the sunday & got in no worries

btw, from Liverpool, M57 J4, it will take 2hrs 50 mins according to MapPoint, and this is via M6/M1 and directions robmarriot posted up.
