Yeah, bank charges can be a joke these days although sometimes they can be nice 
Once i went overdrawn by about £20 because i forget an automatic DD was going out into my savings account, so i just moved the amount i wanted not counting the extra £200 that was going out. Result was instead of £180 in my bank it over by £20. Was expecting a £30 charge, but they wrote to me a few days later saying they would waive the fees and gave me a £50 temp overdraft for a month  . I didnt even call them about it or anything to not pay the charges, they did it off there own back which was a big surprise.
