Cant beat the sound of VTEC and BOOST What sort of power are you going to be looking for?

would you like to enlighten me what vtec sounds like? you must have ears of a hawk to be able to hear the vtec system shuffling the cams about inside the engine

..or are we just talking about the noise of an engine that revs highly?

When the cam timing switches due to the V-tec system the engine basically goes from 8v to 16v and its this switch that sound awesome and the fact it will rev over 8000rpm
The V-tec system uses oil pressure acting on locking pins to engage and dis engage cam followers at certain RPM

No it doesn't. On a DOHC VTEC system like this engine oil pressure pushes a locking pin to engage the high lift cam followers, how would a cam shaft switch on a moving engine?

Well there are actually 6 cam lobes for each cylinder, at low rpm i belive only 2 of the 6 cam followers are actually working the valves, at higher rpm these 2 cam followers disengage and the other 4 engage turning the engine into a 16v motor.

so basically sounds like any other 16v engine ragging its tits off , just that most will hit the limiter first

Im sorry i just dont see the big who-har about vtec engines, no doubt this prelude will be awesome as its got a turbo helping it along but every other vtec kicking around - i just dont see it

Either way, they are bloody complicated and I'm suprised they don't go wrong a lot mroe often than they do

Even Porsche have a VVT system, but they don't make a big song and dance about it. I know that the Honda chief engineer designed the system, but they make too much of a fuss over it now.
