Ok to clarify Chelsea have a better squad/team and better domestic sucess which are the reasons that formed my opinion that they have overtaken overtaken Liverpool. I concede that they have some way to go in order to match Liverpool in terms of club history but on current ability liverpool are not at the same level in my opinion

exactly --Dave--, if he is just purely going on titles then fine, but if you bring everything else into the mix that makes up a football club then they are far from 'overtaking' anyone.

But on a better note....going by his way of winning things in the last 2 seasons then Liverpool are the 2nd best club in England, behind a team who has thrown 300m at the squad..Im happy

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are the most successful, hell I'd even rank Leeds United fairly high up. More recently (passed 10-15years) I would say Man United are the most successful followed by Arsenal and Liverpool. Chelsea only come in to it for the last 2 seasons.

Historical table.

Doesn't mean much though. Look where 4, 9, and 10 are nowadays.

it is historical but you dont stay near the top without being successful inthe present day...hence why they are falling as not in Prem.

Even though the author of this thread said Chelsea overtook in 2005? I.e. last year

yes, read the thread we have gone over this. On what grounds, just purely trophies won or on every aspect of a football club?

the discussion then developed and 2 angles were identified with which to judge opinions on.

- Historical achievements
- Current, more recent results and quality of squad.

I merely provided something that would cover the first point.

Well re-read what I said and you'll see I said 'honours'.

Not doubting Liverpool are the greatest team English football has.

in all seriousness, I can see Liverpool clawing back a few points in the run up to Christmas, Man City, Portsmouth, Charlton, Watford, Middlesborough, all games you should win.

Man Utd have to play Chelsea, Everton, Villa, Wigan amongst others.

Could be interesting.
