Col, me and my mates did a bottom end swap on a 1.8 / 2.0 8v golf in a weekend. You can do it!

If you need any help, give me a shout - still got my mobile no?

How long should it take me to:

1.Remove Engine & gearbox from both cars.
2.Split engine from gearbox on both
3.Remove clutch from knackered engine (only 4 months old) & fit to good engine currently with knackered clutch.
4.Fit new timing belt & oil service to new engine.
5.Reattach gearbox & Fit engine to car.
6-7-8-9-10.Clean up

Father seems anxious about how long im going to take over his drive for.

Also....how heavy roughly will one of the lumps minus gearbox be?? If I can do one at my house then transport it round to the old mans I think that will keep him happier, plus I can take my time splitting the shell & selling bits before I scrap it that way!! Everyones a winner

1. 5 hours for the first one, 3 for the second
2. 30 mins for both
3. 15 mins
4. 6/7 hours
5. 15 mins, but needs to be done OUT of the car, or its a pain in the arse.
6-7-8-9-10. days.

just to put your mind at ease, i drove 200 miles with a fully dressed engine with gearbox in the back of my lowered 1.4

Jesso...erm - Engine 1 runs - "just" so I could remove donor engine 2 & pick up in golf then drive back to base & get stuck in
