I like the vxr but i love this 888, plus i take it all this kit comes as std and it's still cheaper than the vxr. i'd get the 888. vxr's are like belly buttons compared to the 888's.

888 only costs about £120 more than a standard 1.9 CDTi 150.

but most of them will have been sold by now.

The normal Sport Hatch in white with the VXR styling pack looks pretty cool even without the 888 wheels.

The Thurlby 888 has taken an upgrade and a very limited run of 4 off have been made. this was on show at thurlby this weekend and we now have some nice shots available.

The changes are purely cosmetic as 888 never completed the power upgrade before Thurbly took them back and put them up for sale.

All four are black and have the following extra's:
Rear Brake upgrade
Carbon V-Grille, Door Mirror Covers, Hatch Handle, Bumper Inserts, Door Rub Strips, Interior Door strips, Interior Dash strip
Crosshatch front grilles
The inside now sports the recaro's in the front which have prompted a full retrim in Blue Alcatara and Black Leather.

Obviously that ones got a bit more to it...

And i know the VXR isn't "rare" but i see a LOT of cars ont eh way to work (Central london by bike, rush hour on the A2 ) and i've only ever seen 3 in the last 6 months...

Theres 1 blue one (06) that goes into central london, and every time i see it, i do chuckle under my bash hat that its REALLY not the car to have in london (0.2mpg in trafffic, DOH)

But, suprisingly, i do see a fair few Monaro VXR's including a really ncie black one, antherit wheels, Miltex exhausts etc...

damien, im just saying we are having a nice look at some astras, dont need the essay about how much better your VXR is. besides its slower and doesnt handle as well as a 3 MPS

Matty G - How little you know, how little you know

Spunkey, scuse me, read my post, i've put the 888 is a good car FFS.

Anyway, i've said enough about both cars, you can debate all you want now.

Id rather have a vxr any day of the week. If you want MPG i wouldnt buy an 888, id buy a diesel that wasnt a "performance" car.

I think the 888 looks nice, but not as much presence as a vxr.

Get a cdti or whatever it is and put some black wheels on it.

Daimo you're doing well to return 25-30mpg in the VXR. My trip computer average is never above 22 and my car is less powerful.

The 888 is *considerably* better on fuel than that.

Personally I too would have the petrol car, purely because I'm currently too snobbish to go with the sensible cheaper option but also because as you quite correctly say ownership of the car should be about not worrying about such things.

I personally don't feel that I could enjoy owning a diesel. Maybe I'll own try it one day and love it, but right now my list of favorite cars is populated by those which sound and feel like they should.

£22k... for a diesel Astra with a few mods done to it?!?

Seriously, who the hell would pay that much for a car that's value is gonna plummet like a lead balloon!?! £22k is top of the range Audi A3 territory... I know where my money would be going .

ive seen a black 888 kicking about near me. it is really really nice and looks awesome on the road. Looks even better than a VXR on the road to me.

However if buying 1 id still go for a VXR

Like the 888...but looks a bit too boy racer for my likings these days...

However after looking at the VXR I have decided against it...and am swaying towards the CDTI 150 SRI model...with exterior pack...silver one...

The sway of free diesel from my dad has kicked in...as would save me a packet over the year...
