Dont rule out an auto with out trying one in anger. VERY good, and strong gear boxes.
With a few tricks (removing 'trac' fuse) they can change gear much quickers than Mr Average in his 5sp.
Removing the fuse disables the traction, but also stops the ECU smooting out the gear changes. Quicker if you can live with actually feeling it change gear.

What ever happened to that Leon blokes Auto Supra (guy with 1 leg)?
That ran an uprated auto box, revved much higher than the other autos, also went like crap off a shovel...
Went to TOTB one year (Think?) then never saw it again?

it had a high rated stall (torque convertor - TC3600).... could launch at 3600rpm of whatever.
He was at TOTB 2 yrs ago i think. The silver (DUDE?) was the quicker one thatyear... AUTO too!
Leon built mine.

REally, where'd they all go?
Only really see that gold one, and a few other newish ones knocking around these days... All the old "old skool" supras seemed to have gone...
Bit like all the old Corsas on here (usually smashed up, broken up, sold up to Mr Kipling in Never Never land etc )

all the info you need is on www.mkiv.com or msoc.co.uk
alot of folk prefer auto for draggin' because they are apparently very efficient at changing gears, its also rumoured to be stronger than a manual 'box but the info ive read theres not much in it.
im looking for a RZ (6sp manual TT)
check out whiffbitz or GT-cars for serious metal.

the turbo engine is wicked. Friend has a Lexus Vs300. Same engine thats in the Supra. His car was owned by Thor racing before him. Had a different exhaust and a few tweeks and made 400bhp. Absolute monster.

1000bhp on stock pistons, rods, and crank????

I bet if it were mapped with some kind of aftermarket, and all the bolt on mods to support 600bhp... it wouldnt last all that long...! Things would distort surely!!!

The 3S-GTE has been tuned to 450bhp over in the states without doing any internal mods... but it went pop very quickly!!
Standard pistons simply cant cope with that at all...

This is actually true God knows how long they last for but some nutty american's do it. The 2JZ-GTE engine can take upto 600bhp on standard internals with no trouble at all. Above that though, if ragged every day you will eventually see problems.

Its about 100bhp less mate

get a UK TT
Cheaper insurance, slighty more expensive to buy. Bigger steel turbo's. More toys. But heavier.
Jap Spec is lighter and quicker though.
