I had mine for 9 months and not 1 problem with engine at all or conversion...
Treat it like a corsa, and check usual signs, smoke etc...Make sure it pulls in every gear....No unusual knocks...

Id check the oil and water for signs of pourousity (sp) will look like mayo.
Id expect the usual tappets when starting from cold and the usual leaky sump.
Get the lad to take you for a spin, in a corsa it should pull hard in every gear even from 2K revs in 5th it shouldnt struggle at all (going by my XE corsa)
Check EML comes on with ignition as it should then go off when the car starts.
Check the usual fluid levels, check for any smoke coming out the exhaust.
Make sure theres no knocks coming from the engine when its under load, not just being revved up on a driveway.

i know a few lads that have had the conversions done and i dont know if any1 else notices but ones that are done by people taking they're time, buying all the proper kit and rebuilding the engine usually fcuk up,
whereas a few trips to the scrappies and a smokey old cav gsi, chuck it all together one weekend and it smokes about forever,
