Ive had 3 of them. All really good, not had any problems with them.
98 90k
99 40k
01 27k

They are under-estimated little cars would reccommend one as there fun. The 98 one i had did have a whiny gearbox though before i sold it. Also engine mounts seem to be a problem.

i know this may sound stupid but.... could a whiny gearbox be due to lack of gb oil?? If so would it be difficult to top it up?? On my mates dc2 he said he'd have to inject it at a certain pressure or some bollocks???

Good cars, esp with breathing mods (140bhp) and cams/remap. (157bhp)

Watch out for worn snchro's in boxes, esp 2nd & whining (common really), worn trailing arm brearings (neg camber on rear) and worn front wishbone bushes.

Ariel hole can let in water so check for soggy carpet.sound proofing.

I like my106 gti much better than my old XE corsa, handling wise there is no contest the gti would destroy my old corsa on the twisties and upto 80 from a standing start there is nothing in it and my GTI is pretty much standard apart from a CAT back magnex exhaust and ramair filter.

I have the full PI lowering kit with an OMP lower brace and Brembo discs and greenstuff pads which work brilliantly

As for the gearboxes mine has been perfect (touches wood) even after 87k miles andits just passed its MOT first time with no problems

I'd highly recommend buying one

Tbh, it think it varies on the engine temperature aswell, and the earlier model Gti i had (pre 99) i think limited a tiny bit earlier than the later one's i had. Nothin to bother with though as power drops off after 7ish anyway.

Cant see that being standard. i am to believe the pug limits a bit further than the vts, even they are the same engine (could be wrong about that)

Steve - probably not as there only really a guide.
