dave, on the day they tested everything i belive 0-60/top speed etc etc
andys was limited to 120 or something by the gearing, everyone expected wonders (was it even 210 in the old shell?) and lees put in such impressive times theres wasnt a gulf in performance that was expected

that seems odd. his didnt perform well on the 1/4 mile either did it.......
rob, would you say your car at the time would have been a match for a clio 182?

dunno, not sure what a clio 182 goes like.
marks car did the same times on the 1/4 mile in 138bhp form, and 190bhp form, but that was down to the complete lack of traction on a cold and oily santa pod surface.

don't be silly
(in the same circumstances, probably, as it was between 2 sets of 2 roundabouts, 2nd and 3rd gear...)

thats what I dont understand, mine is about the same as brosters was at the time (180ish) and doesnt have much trouble with ctr's and 182's pug 180 gti's etc...
but yours almost matched it? but then I doubt yours would have been close to those cars. (not being cheeky)

I honestly think it was down to the situation
On the motorway, he'd have been quicker, and maybe even a B road.
But then, I did have a LOT of faith in my brakes, suspension etc, and I used to brake REALLY late, and carry more speed than him into roundabouts, so maybe it was just me

I agree btw, I can't see it having been a match for any of the cars you mention

ive wn races and beaten cars 40bhp+ higher in the right situation, like xe'd corsa's etc, they are faster, but commited (more scary) driving and the right road can be done
just like rob and mark id imagine

maybe, but our power graphs were almost exactly the same, just mine stopped earlier. torque graph was a different story.

I admit im shit on the 1/4 mile.
With robin in the car i remeber having a play with a ctr and a golf turbo. non proved problems.
my 1/4 mile runs were done with a buggered gearbox aswell that took an age to select 2nd gear.....
seeing how my car can perform on track against cars with alot more power..... says alot to me.

I have all the times from the Corsa V Saxo day at home, I'll post them up later.
Andy H car wasn't limited, think its top speed was about 138mph

erm how is that?
Same way some guy on mig has a practically standard 16XE on TB, 160bhp odd, and a 13.85 1/4 mile.....?
Its not how much power an engine gives out, its how well that power is delivered.
Lee's corsa/D5 put the power to the road bloody well hence why they went so quick.
Lee's corsa also had 3 different engines after blowups
Renton don e a 6.39 0-60mph
Andy H did a 6.09 0-60mph and a top end of 135mph at the end of Brunters straight.. Thats with 214bhp and an altenator belt that kept coming off at 9000rpm...

So the moral of the story here is you don't have to spend ridiculous amounts on TB's and mapping, just get the car setup properly by people that have experience and your car will be as fast as those that have spent £££££'s on their engines.

or get throttle bodies and get it set up properly, then you can keep up with lots of fast cars on track.... and throw a rod thru the side of you block at 9k....

my old mantzel set up put out about 150ish bhp. wouldnt have stood a chance against my current 180bhp engine though due to the lack of power below 5000 rpm.
maybe rentons was special and andys wasnt performing that day
