after four months of nothing ive been getting on with the car again ready for trax. it started by getting the pistons out and sending them for machining to lower the compression.
cleaned and ready to go to steveboyslim for machining
while they are gone i cleaned the block and honed the bores ready for there return.
while browsing mig i found out about a bloke on there called gary who is famous for his head work on xe/lets and others too. so i contacted him about doing my head.
i have no idea what work like this should cost but mine was done for 225 including a chemical clean afterwards which i thought was quite reasonable.
the result
first i had to remove the valves
when it returned from gary
head rebuilt
in the meantime some more purchases have been arriving bits include arp flywheel bolts, regal 60mm top hat and a new front bumper.
a couple of pics to show the difference in the two top hats
the new front number is a fibreglass gsi front i went for this option for a couple of reasons, one being where i was modding it and adding bits for the intercooler, the plastic one was to flimsy and the fibreglass pieces i added didnt take to it very well and had cracked.
also where i had removed the metal bar behind the the bumper for the intercooler, it was again to flimsy and didnt fit very well so this seemed an all round better option
modded, fitted and painted
i dont think iam going to refit the splitter either looks good like that but ill wait till the engine is back in and its sitting properly.
more will be happening next week so watch his space

well my day today consisted mainly of driving to hertfordshire to see steveboyslim and have oil spray jets fitted, and pick up the last bits of the engine so it can finally go back together.
to feed the oil jets the oil they require, galleries were ground in to the block as apposed to drilling the bearings. this makes rebuilding more straight forward as standard ones can be used. (not that i want to be rebuilding it again )
also i picked up the last bits i needed to finish the rebuild.
bigends
mains
cometic headgasket
head studs and arp nuts with early xe washers
and the machined pistons. went for this option as they were brand new 1000 miles ago and already 86.5mm so machining them down to lower the compression ratio seemed better than spending £500 on new pistons.
before;
after:
rings on and fitted to steel rods
tommorow morning iam going to get the bottom end built so on monday i can take it to work and fit the head and all remaining parts ready for it to back in end of next week

going to be running standard management for the moment and the t34, the turbo is good it just the manifold that lets it down.
lsd and lightened flywheel are next but it may be run for a while without it till i can afford to get them.
