I did a 2 year Btec Nat dip in Mechanics and was advised by all of my lecturers not to do it as a job.
Do it as a hobby now and that's it.
I'd advise something like electrician or plumber. The money is brilliant.

only reason im still in the trade is beacuse of the buisnes me and my old man have gotim trying to get off the spanners now tho and going more in to trading

god am suprised how many of you are saying dont do it! thinking of sticking to me joinery now! by the way i know theres a lot of money in plumbing and electricians but everyones going into that now theres a waiting list to get on them courses, be too many of them soon and wont be enough work!

Most people ive met that works in the motor trade advises against it & infact want a way out themselfs.....that should be enough to put anyone off!!
Stick to the joinery, you can make good money doing that. If you want to learn more about ars then why not do a p/t or evening course & tinker in your spare time??

Finish your apprenticeship then get into site work the joiners there are minted some of them on the sites I worked were 19/20 earning £800 a week sheeting houses!!

I'm doing a Web Development course, but since i got my car it's made me want to get into the mechanics side of things.
I think i might do a few night classes or something like that at some point though.

I enjoy working on my car also but for 8hrs a day, mostly doing clutches & the like & getting crap pay in the process....oh no thanks!! Keep cars a hobby or you will loose what you like about them now!!

i done my nvq and was a machanic 4 2years
crap trade to be in no money
leaving was the best decision i ever made
left my machanics started barwork and got a loan straight away with the extra money and my c20xe engine that was 2years ago now im a bar manager and run 13.9 1/4 wiv the same corsa wiv my now uprated valver
dont regret doing my course tho now fully understand cars and do all the work on my own motor.
dnt touch otha ppls tho

Only real money to be made in motor trade is with ur own business, or working 9-5 and then been a mobile mechanic in ur own time. gota work tho to make money. Canot be lazy in the motor trade.

Get you joinery done and passed.
Then if you like cars do it on the side learn and work on them. As people said you can only really make good money doing things on the side and working for yourself.
PLUS you will be getting a wage off your joinery work and any work off the cars is all play money so you enjoy it more 
Thats the reason why i am a Window Cleaner 4 days a week, get a good wage off that and all the work off the car is for toys
