Steve, every VAG car I've considered seems to be well overpriced compared to other makes.

I'm not gonna pay 5k for a 150bhp Golf, when I could have a 200bhp Astra for less, and insure it for far less too...

You could buy some sort of old jap scrapper for a couple of k that goes really fast.

Depends what you are looking for in a car.

Something quick, reliable and good looking, with a nice interior, for under 5k, which isn't a killer on insurance.

A chain driven, all alloy 2.2 is far more appealing than a belt driven iron block 1.8 to me...

It really is only a choice between the 2.2 and the Turbo, 1.8 doesn't even get a look in

have you considered a 2.2 hatch? just slightly quicker, lighter and better handling than the coupe plus you get more head room and theyre only group 13 insurance.

Col, I've tried the 2 cars thing before, I ended up with a shitter for a daily, and a car in bits in the garage... I'd rather do it the other way round, decent car every day, cheap toy in bits

Matt, they're an option too, but I spotted a Turbo coupe and it caught my eye more than a 2.2 hatch My brother in law has a 2.2 hatch though, and it's a very good car, the reason I prefer the 2.2 engine infact.

888s are a little more than 5k from what I can see, I'd love one though
