I work for Council Tax.
You need to inform them of the date you bought property, you are liable from then. You can however get either a unnoccupied and unfurnished discount till you move in. or uninhabitable if you are doing work on it. You need to phone tho as they might need to do a visit. English CT is slightly different to ours but the basics will be the same.

you shouldnt have to pay it. when you write in you should get the discount put on straight away. Think it lasts a max of 6 months then is reduced. you shouldnt start paying till you are in the house.

Couldnt afford it on my own at the moment. Mortgage I could cover, but my house would be dark, cold with no running water and I would be very hungry
