i did look into these before buying my cupra but they were all way out of my price range at the time, prices really have dropped, you can get ine with 16k on the clock for 9.5k or a black one with 23k on the clock for 7.8k. i take it the black isn't to sought after.

Yeah turbo is probably going to chuck it around the 60k mark!
Strangely enough, a VXR turbo is cheaper than a standard GSi unit, I know what I will be buying

Engines suffer from AFM failure a lot, I have went through two in a year, but thats a typical Vauxhall Ecotec problem.

Depends how it has been looked after over that 80k tbh....... I ALWAYS let mine warm up and cool down, oil changes every 5k etc.
If the 80k is mostly motorway miles - as the first 40k of my car was, I wouldnt be put off.

Blacks the most sought after colour closley followed by Red as they are rare as hens teeth. Arden blue is just too common. The only reason I got an Arden one was I knew the car was fairly straight and knew its history which is important when buying one as there are many phoneys around.

Overall its a great car practical and nice to drive. It can be quite thirsty if only used for short round town journeys and when you give it some yeee haaa. On the motorway the fuel consumption is great cant fault it.

So far running costs have been minimal and its been a good buy...however with it being Vauxhall its not the most inspiring chassis so if your looking for a car to throw around look elsewhere.

Also due to the strong residuals of the VXR Astras at the moment this has had a knock on effect on GSi's so they seem to be holding their values quite well

These figures were taken from Astrasport, and they had written confirmation that these figures are correct:

they said red 16
then silver 161
then black 166
then blue 317
