You'd rather pay 900 quid than a few on a second hand one?

secondhand box is counter productive i rebuild so many of these even with low mileage on them. Rebuilt is much better in the long run!

Thats what mine did.. sometimes it'd be fine, then other it'd slip like a bitch. Turned out to be gearbox oil on the clutch, and when the oil warms it causes the clutch to go. I'd get it checked

Yes because it has a 20k mile waranty. So if it goes i get it replaced! The guy said the seals were probably on it's way out, then i've put new oil in which is thinner than old shit and gone though the seals onto the clutch, so clutch is fucked, can't get it into 5th gear so the car is going in today for new clutch and gearbox.

i think thats the first time i can agree with you!

Hopefully a whole new one will last, probably will last 21k!!! Then fuck up so i don't have any waranty! But i doubt i'll keep it for 20k miles so fuck it!

when i had my 106 i had 4 gearboxs

used to start whining when the car just wouldnt move just make some interesting noises lol

took one apart and found out that the diffs used to stip the teeth off all the planet gears which was nice

just fit an lsd or sumit and it will be fine lol

Thanks for the offer tim but it's already in Mr Clutch getting done! It needed doing ASAP and i didn't have time to get one then buy a clutch then get someone to fit it! Plus i like the idea of the warranty!

The bloke i spoke to really sounded like he knew what he was talking about, it was the only company who sounded busy but willing to be helpful and listen to my dodgy diagnosis and actually got me an excact quote rather than a rough figure!

Apparently the seals and the bearings go aswell, which i think is the diagnoses on mine.

Steve, how much did you get quoted? How bad is the gearbox and clutch?

My clutch slips no matter what gear now and no matter what speed im going. I have to pull away in secnod and not use reverse as it sounds like its going to blow

but no cash means its got to be driven till i save

I have to admit the gearboxes arent very nice to use. The gears dont always feel secure when jumping in. The worst is going into reverse gear ( usually have to double clutch ).

I got quoted from a rough price of £850 to over a grand. I went for a price of £875.11. Including vat and 20k miles warranty.

I didn't really want to spend that sort of money on this, i have been saving for a while and was gonna buy another car with it or put it on top of the sale from mine, but it's now getting spent on this! So i'll be keeping this for a while!

Is that to re-con the current gearbox? Is your car drivable? I got quoted £650 for new clutch and reconned gearbox fitted.
