The oil was and filter was done about 2 months ago, will it still need doing due to water being in the oil?

You get valve stem seals in a head gasket kit anyway, so you may aswell replace them.

Well you'll need to drop the oil before taking the head off as the oilways will still be full. Typically when doing a headgasket you want to fill with fresh oil & filter upon fitting, do a couple hundred miles run in then drop the oil again & fit another filter & fresh oil.

If buying a kit, which going with what he said his mate as just fitting a new gasket.

But u'll need need a new inlet, exhaust, head (obvioulsy) and rocker cover gasket. So you may aswell get the kit

depends how its done, ive seen folk lift the head off with manfolds etc attached, lift it enough to switch gasket then bolt it back on again!! A mate used to do this in practice in a VW dealership!!

Everything apart from head stretch bolts, you need 10 of them. not sure if that engine uses hydraulic valve tappets too.....they may be worth doing

x14xe's always tend to go on no'4 cylinder between the cylinder and water jacket
It will be worth while removing the egr valve and idle control valve and giving them a good clean out while its all off too
Done loads now and find there are a few extra gaskets and bits you will need
ie the throttle body gasket
worth changing the thermostat + gasket
also make sure the fan cuts in when its rebuilt as this could have caused the gasket to go in the first place if the temp switch is faulty for the fan
and lasty the head bolts are
25nm then 90' 90' 90' 45'
starting in the middle working clockwise out to the ends
