There was one left in one of the machines I was using at work this week (was either the latest one or a very recent one) - and it has improved ten fold, there is just one girl feature and that has been done in a more upmarket (almost FMH-esque) way, the feature cars are a lot more tasteful than before, yes there are still the pages of sex-chat lines etc in the back but I guess they help to pay the bills for the magazine and are needed to be there.
Overall it's a huge improvement on what it has been for the past 5+ years!
If you've got a few quid go and pick up a copy and see what you make of it - I think you'll be impressed.

This information is Gold to you Max ed - about what your target audience think about the mag.

I think the name (which i know in a million years wont change) doesnt help along with the logo (again i know you wont be willing to chance)

But i do respect you an immense amount for seeking to make change and actually doing it.

To be honest i think if you carry on like this your wasted on such a publication.

Now ill pull my head out of your arse and go and finger my own.
I thank you please.

i bought the first one of your new look, which i was a bit disapointed in to be honest, the only feature which really stuck out to me was the vauxhall victor. other than that all i noticed was cars which had countless amounts of money threw at them, i want to see cars built on driveways not on stupid budgets but car's built by regular people not bodyshops with blanks cheques

I am very aware of how important it is now to talk to you guys as much as possible and workload allowing I plan to do a lot more of it. We will be bringing a few issues to Donny next weekend. We haven't got an official presence as we are waiting to see what the show looks like this year (the organisers are attempting to make it a credible car show again). Be good to see some of you if you're there.

As you can imagine we are stuck between a rock and a hard place as we are changing the content, look and feel to attract a new audience and refind all those former Max readers. Unfortunately (and this has nothing to do with the current team) the preconceptions are so strong currently that people won't give it a chance. We will continue to evolve the content further as the months go on - do it slowly so we give new readers a chance to find it...

I will give you another chance and go and buy it later. It would be good to have something decent to read other than Total Vauxhall.

I bought a porn mag the other week, imagine my shock when it was full of cars! Vice versa with Max Power the last time I bought it.

I still think that if you are trying to change audience you NEED a new name. People will always relate MAX POWER to the local ned in his vauxhall nova in the local Maccy D's.

completely agree, the new look is heading in the right direction imo and you you do notice the changes & effort you guys are putting altho as stated by a few of the guys here the name will always be related to the local chavy cruise etc.

imo i think a feature/project built on 'normall-ish' budget would be pretty good (something that your average person could afford and build on their drive) like what you can find in total vauxhall or ppc. something such as track prepping a car, general maintenance, or restoration of an old skool motor. it would be an interesting read and would maybe interest the car enthusiasts more

i forgot the mag still existed tbh, theres so many mags out!
Max power has been around for ages right???!!!
get rid of the bad pics of girls, if you have girls get FHM style/glamour pics and choose the best girls ;-P

it must be hard these days for mags!! you got to be open for the right market! and cater for everyone! right!?

the days of fibreglass, spinners and neons are just not cool anymore ... hence why you are probably trying to get feedback of what real peopple want??!!,, countless number of times you see thousands spent on 'show' cars and 5 months later they are trying to sell them... stuuuuupidd.

dont forgot MAX is probably the daddy of all them car/girl mags????!!!!

Funny you should say that, we made a similar decision.

Personally I don't see a huge problem with the name, being a reader from the first time around. If the content is good then I'm not about to hold a short term loss of direction against anyone.

this is true to the extent of the target audience. with the younger readers there is always going to be a market for this type of car modification. the problem you have is that as readers get older there tastes and interests change and as with myself i am no longer interested in big bodykits and loud stero's etc. however the mag editors need to deciede weather they wont to keep a selection of dedicated readers/buyers of the magazine or risk losing them to younger generations. noing nothing about the business i cant suggest which way to go but as said before i also believe that its got a reputation that wont be lost. have countless old max power mags at the bottom of cupboards but dont really buy them these days as not to my taste

very true ian

i remember reading max power back in the late 90s and it had some cracking features and articles in it.

the last tim i bought it was probably early 00s and it just seemed to be full of ads and sex chat lines

i also heard a rumour from someone who worked at performance ford that they (max power) were on the verge of going down the crapper a few years ago and hance the ads growing in it

Right.... I've just picked up the new issue with the Caymen S on the front and am looking through it now.

First impressions are....

The layout is good,

The pictures (photography) is fantastic!

Car content.... Ermmm... There's not actually many main feature cars (The Caymen, Corrado, Astra VXR, MR2 and Supra) The cars you've chosen to feature though are all unique, interesting to read about and tastefully modded... so well done there!

Theres lots of adverts (but I appreciate there has to be from a "Making money" point of view so that doesn't bother me)

Girls!!!.... or lack off! Sorry but all those complaining about seeing girls in the mag... come on, are you gay? Cars and Girls go together!!! I don't want a mag cruelling with women, but it would nice to see 2 or 3 pages devoted to one topless beauty to brighten up my day The girl thats in it is nice... but the pics are arty farty... Why do the majority of blocks buy the Daily Star or Sun... They want to see a nice hot topless bird on page three... and any bloke that doesn't is strange if you ask me

The other features in the mag, say the Jamie Shaw interview are ok, but to be honest if I had the choice of that or another feature car.... i'd prefer to see the car.

Stick to what you know... Pack the mag with cars... and lots of them.. Plenty of "homebrew, Born in a barn" motors... Track day machinery both expensive and budget.... 1/4 mile machines, a couple of "Smartly" kitted, ICED cars and a hot lady.... along with a "Whats new section"

JOBS A GOODUN!

Anyway Keep up the good work Max ED, I enjoy the mag and will continue to support it. Who cares what its called... its whats in it thats important. And for me its a good read.

Its a car magazine, not a porn mag. I dont care for seeing girls in car magazines, there is porn for that!

I recommend a change of name if you want to attract a new audience, the max power name means alot in this day and age and its alot easier than changing peoples perceptions. I think people are more likely to give a new magazine a chance as compared with an old magazine which has a 'bad' name for itself.

i had a chat with simon(max ed) when he was only a few weeks into the job at max live last year. must say was very impressed. a top bloke to talk to, was asking for input on the magazine and i could see he's made a genuine effort to regain the direction as a car mag
i agree the image is still damaged from all the useless tits and ass articles but its defo on the right track. supposed to be featuring my car when its finished but until i lose the spoiler and bonnet(goin a lot smoother than it was) its gonna look a little out of place with the new image lol. just wanna say people should pick up a copy and then judge it after seing the changes they've made. if you still don't like it, fair enough

Sorry, I don't agree....

I don't buy porn but always have a look at Page 3 when theres a Sun newspaper about... you wouldn't tell the SUN to stop pulishing topless women because its a news paper and not a porn mag

And who cares what its called? I just think its sad that if its a great mag and you wouldnt buy it just because of a name.

Thats like saying... yes the Skoda Octavia RS is a great car but the reason you wouldn't buy it is because its still badged a Skoda.

PROPER car enthuisasts would buy it for the car if they liked it! So I think in the same way people will buy Max Power because of the content and not the name. Well I will anyway....

No, I'd buy the Mail.

That's the problem here, there's 2 audiences, people who want a car mag, and people who want a few pairs of tits in a car mag cover.

To please one, you lose the other's custom.

I dont care about the name, im just saying they will appeal to a wider audience who are unfamiliar with the new magazine name, people will still be put off by the max power name even if the content does change and thats fact.
