Would it not be cheaper to buy a whole new lock assembly and fit it in one lump? Or will the key barrel need to be changed to save swapping keys etc?

Had the lock apart and it seems to be the deadlock ring that is broken (top left in the picture on page 1) Does anyone have the part number ?

I had a problem with my heater console, went to Vauxhall and on their parts computer screen, it has a break down (or exploded view) of all the major parts. I should imagine they have one for the lock, so you can see the part etc.

Well it must be a common fault - I went to the dealer today with a list of things I needed prices for (filters etc.) and gave him a list - on that list I'd put "lock part" and he knew just which bit it would be.

Excellent - I might just have to pop to my local Vauxhall dealer, see if they know

Actually go into a Vauxhall dealership - of all the bigger parts, they have a breakdown or 'explosion' of the smaller parts, so you'll be able to tell which one is which!
Trying to explain things over the phone is normally difficult, especially as I normally get some goon trainee!

Ask to speak to his supervisor, or just if there is someone else that will know.

A bit fell out the bottom of the door today and it's definitely the top middle one (if you ignore the little black thing on the far right) that has broken, so Joe's diagnosis was spot on

What is the better option to fix this?
Get a new piece to replace the bit that is broken, take the lock mechanism apart, and put back to gether paying all the labour?
or
Get a whole new lock mechanism and have that fitted, baring in mind I WANT TO KEEP THE SAME KEY?

Does it need coming apart to the extent of all the parts in the picture coming apart to, or is it only a few bits?
Just want to know if my mechanic will take the task on or not. . .

Once the back of it is off the handle. On the first pic, the 2 big pieces in the top row need to come off. So no you don't need to go to that extent.

Sounds pretty simple - he knew Ford door latches are common to go, so hopefully he'll no about this.
Cheers Joe

Also Dean, you will need the tiny little roller which is on the top row on the right. This falls out when it breaks so could be anywhere.
