The ST170 Duratec is a Zetec with a Duratec badge, no VVT on the Fiesta.

I see, I wasn't sure if it was a ST or not, some of the normal Mk2s had a Duratec, that's why I asked.
I'm 99% sure none of the Mk1s did, they were all Zetec, just had a Duratec sticker

yeah the st170 is a zetec engine, just ford decided to be silly, like they did with the focus rs and put a duratech badge on zetecs.
the fiesta is a genuine duratech engine, the management has all the features to run VVT but the engine is missing the hardware, the svt focus is america has vvt with the duratec tho.
the mondeo 2ltr is the only other ford to have the 2ltr duatech. some transits have a 2.3 varient thats not such a good choice due to having the balance shaft...
all fun

You were led to believe wrong. The "Duratec ST" and "Duratec RS" engines in the Mk1 Focus are actually rebadged Zetec's. The ST170 engine has a VVT head fitted with inlet runner actuator that changes tract length at higher RPMs. The RS engine is just a normal 2.0 engine with uprated internals and reworked head.
Real Zetec engines (proper Ford ones) are noted with the inlet at the back, exhaust at the front. Zetec-S (Sigma, Yamaha co-developed engines) and Duratec's have the inlet at the front, exhaust at the back.
Difference between Zetec-S and Duratec (before it's asked) is the Duratec is a Mazda developed engine with cam chain, as opposed to belt on al Zetec's.
Fiesta ST 2.0 Duratec's do not have variable valve timing.

No it's not. The SVT Focus is basically our ST170. Same engine.
