Because an AX with a VTS engine is quicker. And a VTS looks like a VTS whereas an AX with a VTS engine does not. Comprende?

Plus, I can get a non-running AX for £50-£100 + £150-200 for VTS engine
Faster than a VTS and the ultimate sleeper for £300
If you can show me a VTS for £300 then please do so, Steven.

ax's are more reliable than corsa's fact.
My corsa had been sat for 2 weeks not touched, Went to start it to get it on the recovery truck and it was dead.
Brothers citreon ax runabout had been sat for 3 months untouched an started first turn of the key. :@

That dont mean they are more reliable. I've had both car's & I had endless problems with my AX before I sold it and got my Metro GTi which wasn't much better to be honest.
But guess It's all down to what condition both cars are in I guess

How true about the AX, I got one for £40 last year, sat in a field for 2 years, all mouldy , started soon enough

That is a fair point, never thought of that!
I doubt a AX 16v will be much quicker.

A 16v AX would be around 200kg's lighter than a Saxo VTS.

Power to weight would be roughly 110bhp per tonne I reckon.

I looked up the weight of an AX and it said 1,100KG. VTS engines are only 120bhp.

ax weighs about 3/4 the weight of a saxo, s1 106 is almost the same as an s2 106 steve
add in the fact im sure most people are more comfortable rippin the insides and grinding unnecesary weight out of a £300 ax as opposed to a £2k saxo....

Well the 106 and AX are the same???
All i'm saying is a std 16v ax vs VTS / GTI will be very similar paced.
An AX will weigh less as they all had smaller engines.
I understand though that it can be done cheaply but i think there are better options.
If you get a 1.0 AX your going to have to upgrade everything to VTS spec atleast, which won't be cheap, and for the hassle of it you can get VTS's for £1500. You'll spend more than that making 16v AX.

No it isn't you fucking retard. One is a hot hatch that never came with a LET, the other is a 4x4 coupe.
An AX is effectively a Saxo. Saxo is just reshelled.
So no you are totally wrong.
