probably easy to tune, but considering the drive train and weight ov the car and potential power, i think that would be a tad excessive and counter productive....

Random kit car related JR aimed question:
Any ideas how much BHP a 2.9 V6 XR4x4 has? Seem dirt cheap these days, and if you can knock up a decent "locost" chassis might make an interesting project?

v6 engines are a waste of time in a lsis.
im using a c20xe but the best car engine i think would be a TU5J4L from a 106 gti, for these type of cars you want small, light, powerful engines, not heavy lumps of v6
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Something all alloy would be ideal, this is all alloy, but I think an 8.3 litre V10 will be heavy even made from alloy. A T56 can't be light either
500bhp in a 7-800kg car is going to be quite something though, either way

Yeah, can see what you mean. Was thinking more along the lines of using the V6's power train and engine for a bit, SVA it, then possibly swap the engine (if it's possible not sure if it uses a type 9 derived box?) for something better.

Think Raw/MK use the toyota 1.6 twincam lump for simlar reasons, but easier to get hold of a RWD 'box i presume?

no not a type 9 on the v6. ive got an SBD bellhousing on the xe to fit a t9 box to it. have a look at my site, its a bit shit and not updated recently but gives you an idea.

anything is possible as long as you get a bell housing to match. my original plan was the TU5J4L this a 4speed box out a mk 2 escort rally car but funds wouldnt allow.
a few phone calls and i found someone that would make me a bell housing!!

XR4x4 uses the MT75, which was the Type-9's succesor and has the same bellhousing bolt pattern.
I'd use a Duratec if I were building a kit I think.

So the bell housing of one should fit the other?
Wonder if anyone can knock up a housing to use the 1.6 160bhp civic engine? oh, and are there much gains to be had from using a 4wd set up? I presume either there isn't or i'm missing a big part of the picture here as to why people don't use them being as there realtively cheap? .

basically its because you dont need it, ive seen 1 4x4 and it was a bitch to build. others use 2 engines, one for the front and one for that back http://www.tigerracing.com/cars/tiger-z100-main.php

The engine end of the bellhousing had the same bolt pattern, not sure about the gearbox end, but Ford are normally VERY good for parts interchangeability (sp), so I'd be surprised if they weren't the same part TBH.
As for the 4x4, I don't think there would be much point unless you had quite a wedge of power.

robin, i don't think they are the same, i looked into an m75 but couldnt get a bell housing cheap enough so it mustnt be the same as the one i got for the type 9
