But would any of those cause the engine to turn itself off after a second of being on? Its more of a grinding kind of screach. Its hard to explain. I haven't touched any of the pulleys ect, so dont think it could be that either.
When i broke down, i tried starting it when i was still rolling a bit. Could i have done damage to the starter motor or something? But how would that cause it to cut itself out?

Have you tried the coil modual thing that connects to the side of the coil?
Get your head in different areas of the engine bay and see where the noise is louder, jack it up get underneath, hold onto things feel for abnormal vibrations

Cheers Dean
Daz- It sounds like its coming from the back of engine. But its so hard to tell because it dies so quickly, before you can get a good look or listen.
I dont want to keep starting it incase im wrecking it even more.

Finally fixed! Turns out it was a valve down the back of the engine that goes into the inlet manifold.(dunno what its called) It wasn't connected to the inlet, so air was just escaping out of it! I put the pipe back on and tried it. voila, it started.
Just hope it passes the MOT now.
I'm well happy

It's a cylinder shaped silver thing. Right next to the inlet manifold and a little pipe connects it to the manifold.

Yeah and the noise was obviously the air gushing out of the big hole
So glad it wasn't the starter motor or anything serious!
The ECU's being a bit tempremental now tho. If you nock it or wiggle any wires, the engine cuts out. Managed to secure it so it wont move and hopefully it'll be ok.
