i agree a highly tuned 1.4 might make similar bhp/ton at stupid revs but the power would be all over the place the rest of the rev range, let alone the torque, JR probably had the ultimate 1.4 and that was just about standard gti speed

Your point Rob was that a (assuming the 130bhp) gti would be faster than a nova with a 1.6 inlet XE from a rolling start. Same power very different weight.

yes as has been said, its the way it delivers the power, my vts powerband is like from 3.5k and it pulls to 7.6k and it pulls hard all the way through that rev range.

So you are negating the 140kg weight deficit soley on the premise that the gti delivers the power better?! I'm sure a 1.6XE inlet has a great power & torque curve too, pulling from simliar revs to the limiter. I'd like to see a RR graph for a 16XE with inlet.

gunzi you can chat all day long about power as much as you like, fact is in real life it doesnt count for that much, robs nova was exactly the setup your talking about yet that pulled a slower time up the strip than my standard 106

From a standing start the 106 is clearly better which is what the 1/4 judges - this is not real life. From a rolling start I'd hand it to the nova easily. Down to the massive weight difference.

Why does everyone get so hung up about how their 1.4/1.6 engine'd Corsa compares to a 106 GTi? If your that bothered about it then just buy a 106!

Again gunzi, youd be very surprised how the Gti will perform, i think the car has proven its not just power to wieght, my old corsa was a x16xe with a dbilias inlet, viper, manifold and de-catted full system, rolling roaded at 123bhp, and my mates 106 gti with filter and exhaust still pulled away considerably easily from me.

I bet it did, the corsa will probably have more weight (model dependant) and less power.... EDIT - to Rob

Yeah I see that but surely the easiest way is just to buy a 106 GTi to start with

a corsa 1.4 will need a 1.6 16v saxo engine in, and still wouldnt keep up.

as a hot hatch, saxos / 106 are better all round than corsas. end of.
